The ironies of life
11.28.11
A coworker forwarded this to me today and I feel compelled to share with you all. It's that little wakeup call we all need, when we've fallen into that "poor pitiful me" funk... Thanks for the forward, Sid.

The ironies of life
11.22.11
One of my favorite things about this world we live in is the little ironies thrown our way. Sometimes they are funny – like how ironic it is that I, who gain 5 pounds simply looking at a piece of chocolate cake, have a daughter who never seems to gain weight. It's one of the "perks" of her medical condition- she will simply always be petite. I'm quite certain she will appreciate it later in life.

It's nomination time for Employee of the Month. Something that some staffers look forward to – they immediately forward their very well thought out nominations – while others probably grumble and hit "delete" to my emailed request. I know some people question the validity of the program... does their vote really count? Why doesn't so-and-so ever win? Does it really matter to anyone?

Positivity
8.8.11
Positivity equals productivity whether it is at work or home; it may even bring us a dose of appreciation without the intention. Research states that 9 out of 10 people say they are more productive around positive people- showing that positivity is what we as humans need for motivation just as our bodies need food...

I am an avid Dog the Bounty Hunter fan- although, Dog can be rather cheesy sometimes : )- he has a good message for the most part, and it's entertaining! Breaking the habit
5.24.11
There's a saying: "bad habits are hard to break."
Boy, isn't that the truth! We all have a habit or two stashed away in our "closet" - habits that leave us wondering why we can't break them. Gossiping, complaining, smoking, nail biting - you name it we have all done one or two!

Inspire Me
5.6.11
Whether you are a pro at juggling work and home, or you just keep a smile on your face all the time - everyone can be inspiring in some way. The simple words "Hello. How are you?" followed by a smile can go a long way for someone having a terrible day.
I have a friend that has had a grim time lately between work and home - they just seem to be in a rut, so to speak. I realized that sometimes the issues that we are facing - work or home- may seem small to someone else having a rougher go at life. After our talk - about my own issues lately - I went home, and couldn't stop thinking of a way to perk her up...

The spirit of Christmas
12.22.10
Last Saturday, a group of Reindeer elves and I made our way to the Peyton Manning Children's Hospital at St. Vincent. They brought toys and treats and crafts for all ... the 3rd floor playroom was hopping with action as the children – patients and siblings – decorated Christmas trees, made Snowman door hangers, and tied their own holiday pillows. Santa himself made a special visit. The children got to visit with Santa and each received a special gift.

This is a picture of my Reindeer teammates and my father, David Rees, who is currently battling Stage 4 Lung Cancer. I came into work last Friday to find the office decorated with "Team Rees" and people wearing pink and black in a demonstration of support for my dad. It's a moment in my life I will never forget. That perfect blending of personal and professional – that moment when you realize exactly how blessed you can be at a moment in time where it doesn't necessarily appear so.

September is around the corner, which means busy season – or summer, as the rest of the world calls it – is almost over. It's been a great season for us – could be our best summer in company history if we finish out as strongly as we've been going. But while the numbers may be up, our spirit seems to be lower. We've got one more month to go ... which has me pondering ... do we have enough fuel to make it to the finish line?

I was recently going back and forth on the phone with a local company regarding some poor service my family had received … it was something very basic – we'd been long-time customers, so to me, it seemed like a very simple situation. One they could – and quite frankly should – easily fix. Reindeer is, after all, a company whose motto is "real. personal. service." – to me the whole thing was really a non-issue. Customer not happy. Make customer happy.[
