How much notice is needed?
In a perfect world, Reindeer Auto Relocation would like to have one to
two weeks notice of your preferred transport dates. This insures that the
assigned carrier can schedule your vehicle(s) within the time frame you
requested. However, if you need to move a car immediately, we will be
able to accommodate your request. For example, most transporters have
secured terminals in major cities and can usually get a vehicle picked up
within a few hours. You also have the option to drop the vehicle off at a
terminal if you cannot wait for the carrier to pickup the vehicle(s).
How does it work?
Once your order has been placed, your shipment will be scheduled
according to the dates on your order form. During the pickup of the
vehicle, the carrier will complete a detailed physical inspection of the
vehicle on the carrier’s bill of lading that you must sign and acknowledge.
This same inspection form will be presented upon delivery so that you
can re-inspect the vehicle. If any damage occurred during transit, please
be sure to note it on the bill of lading at the time of delivery and have
the driver sign in agreement. No claims will be honored if the damage is
not noted at the time of delivery and acknowledged by the driver. Your
Quality Assurance Representative at Reindeer will contact you after
delivery to ensure your delivery went well.
How long does it take?
Your vehicle is being loaded on a car carrier along with other cars being
delivered to other destinations. Delivery times fluctuate depending on
the miles between your beginning and ending destination, the scheduling
of car carriers in your area, the proximity to other cars being delivered on
the same carrier, weather, and unforeseeable events such as traffic accidents
and carrier break downs. Cars moving with enclosed carriers can take
longer to deliver due to the supply of enclosed trailers available. Specialty
moves that involve transporting your vehicle overseas via boat
transportation (i.e. Alaska and Hawaii) may take up to 30 days to deliver.
Other overseas deliveries may take longer. Your patience is appreciated
with regard to your delivery date.
What kind of truck will it be transported on?
In most cases, your vehicle(s) will be transported on an 8 or 10-car open
transport hauler; the same type of trucks used to deliver new cars to local
dealerships. These trucks are 75 to 80 feet long (that's nearly twice as long
as a conventional freight truck or moving van) and are almost 14 feet high.
Therefore, they are very hard to maneuver and are restricted to main roads
that do not have any overhanging trees or low clearance bridges. Please
bear this in mind when directing the truck to your home or pickup location.
A local service may be used should the hauler/transporter encounter
difficulty in reaching your pickup or delivery point. (See Terminal Service
below). Fully enclosed transport offers enhanced protection for your
vehicle by providing custom-made air suspension vans and protection
from road debris and the elements. Hydraulic lift gates that keep your
vehicle horizontal at all times during the loading process (essentially, an
elevator for you car) are available on most units. Lift gate loading minimizes
the possibility of undercarriage damage and is strongly recommended
for antiques, classics, or exotic vehicles that may have limited ground
clearance. Winch loading is also available for inoperable vehicles or at the
customer's request.
Will my vehicle go to a terminal?
This may depend on your pickup/delivery locations and/or your scheduled
dates for the pickup/delivery. Should your area not allow transport carriers
or have restricted access, and there are no areas locally which can
accommodate the loading/unloading of your vehicle(s), then a local flatbed
service will be used to pickup/deliver your vehicle(s). A terminal service
is also used when the carrier cannot pickup/deliver your vehicle(s) due to
scheduling conflicts, inaccessible areas or both. All terminals used are
secured, licensed, and fully insured.
What does door-to-door delivery mean?
Door-to-door delivery means the car carrier will get as close as physically
possible to your front door as long as it does not compromise the cargo
and/or your vehicle(s). If you live on a main road (at least 2 lanes wide)
with no overhanging trees or low bridges, and the streets leading to your
house can accommodate trucks of 75 to 80 feet long, then the carrier will
pickup your vehicle(s) from your door and deliver it to your door, if the
same conditions apply to your destination. As the driver approaches your
pickup/delivery location, he or she will call you to confirm your address
and discuss accessibility. If accessibility is limited, the driver may suggest
meeting at a local supermarket or mall with ample space to load/unload
your vehicle(s).
